The objective of Lindin
In the Bible the heavens should proclaim God´s glory and the citizens in the kingdom of God should be taught the commandments and the laws of God. After a period of fervent prayers, we decided to set up a Christian radio station in Tórshavn, which is the capital of the Faroe Islands. This radio station is dedicated to God´s glory and to the kingdom of God with these words:
Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night has been hurt down. They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and by the word of their testimony …” Rev. 12. 10–11.
The main purpose of setting up this radio station is simply the following: To make our nation be more aware of the supremacy of Jesus Christ; His power of saving and setting people free for the glory of His Name. To create an atmosphere of proclaiming the message about the love of God through Christian music and teaching based on the Bible.
To make the people on the Faroe Islands be aware of God´s love and His forgiveness of sin through the proclamation of His Words.
To provide a tool with which the Word of God may be proclaimed to the people wherever and whenever they want to listen.
To tell people things that God makes in our nation, our churches, and in the lives of the individuals.
Extracts from the history of Lindin
With a letter dated 18.07.1989 we applied for broadcasting permission in Tórshavn from the Faroese government. In this proposal which was supported by many churches in Tórshavn, we suggested broadcasting when the radio station run by the state wasn´t active.
Then things came to a halt. – Suggestions and questions asked in the parliament did not get any approval, but in springtime 1996 things changed.
While the cultural committee of the parliament discussed a proposal concerning changes in the media act, a prayer conference was being held at a hotel in Tórshavn. 400 people from 5 different countries took part in it.
Before that church leaders were invited to a meeting to get support to cancel the monopoly, butn 5 out of 7 members categorically refused.
On Sunday during this prayer conference, prayer leaders went to the Town Council and then to the Parliament to pray . They prayed especially for the members of the cultural committee.
In a program broadcast by the state run radio a few days after the prayer conference the chairman of the committee announced that he had changed his mind. During the next days the other members changed their minds too. When the cultural committee returned the proposal to the Parliamen a few days later it recommended the MPs to cancel the monopoly – a great prayer victory.
The final application for permission to broadcast was sent to the government in June 1998. The permission was received exactly 10 years after the first application.
During the period the American Icelander Mike Fitzgerald and his wife Sheila have been our best supporters. Again and again they have encouraged and urged us to continue – we want to thank them from the bottom of our hearts.
Lindin started broadcasting 21.01.2000
